One thing I probably didn't make clear is that I told her that I am very shy and have never had a a girlfriend and also that there is no guarantee we will ever meet due to my shyness.

Also just to reply to a point from one of the responses, I could just go on an easy quiet date with her, but that won't make it any easier for any possible future meetings. It just seems to me that I'm already trying to minimise contact with this person even though I'm supposed to be doing the opposite.
