Welcome. You're right - this is an addiction just like any drug or habit. I think the only way to stop is to understand it and then to replace it with healthy ways to cope. It probably takes therapy to do that if you are addicted to it. Not many people can quit on their own. SI is just a symptom. The real pain goes deeper.
