I just read several articles about attempts to suppress voting in some states. I hate to get too partisan, but the voter suppression laws have been a common practice used in some precincts in order to disqualify folks who trend towards voting Democratic. I've read several articles about voter suppression in Florida, Georgia, etc. Such tactics are a black mark on the name of democracy.
Another beef of mine against our system of voting is that elections are always held on Tuesdays -- a day when a majority of people work. When I was living in Germany elections were always held on a Sunday -- a day when a majority of folks have a day off. It seems that holding elections on the weekend makes democracy more representative.
...Now I'll get off my soapbox.
