Ugh.. obsession is a word I will save for negative experiences, like not feeling like you locked the door even if you should know you did it.

Had many different interests, but I can't remember being laughed at at all. Sometimes I've probably talked about things people weren't interested in. Thing is, others talk to me all the time about things I find extremely boring, so I think all people do it. It's just that sports, weather, TV, and the latest thing you "should" be negative about, all are OK things to involve people in. As are their children, grandkids, son-in-law's job, daughter's knitting project and so on. Things not allowed are geeky things.

I usually let other people lead, if I don't feel like I can be myself with someone. If I feel I can, there is usually no problem. They will then also talk about whatever they like. And no one cares what the norm is! We sort of make up the rules between US.

I don't really talk much about what I'm interested in, as most of them are solitary anyway. I know that people would look strange at me if I started talking about stuff. Now I sort of didn't bring it up, but my care worker and I suddenly talked about airplanes (slight interest). I was going to say something about the captain and co-pilot and for some reasons captain sort of just disappeared from my head, so I thought about it, and she fills in with "PILOT!", like expecting an applause or something for knowing the person flying a plane is a pilot. Then you realize there is just no way you can talk to them about anything of interest, since they don't know first thing about, well almost anything.

OK, I'm being unfair now I know, I know people with AS learn more deeply and less broad, but at least I try to also keep a broad knowledge base. Funnest is watching game shows on TV with them, and they not knowing anything about anything, maybe they can tell a name of an actor by looking as their photo (which I can't I must admit...), but else nothing much. My care worker though (game show question) that leopards indeed live in the Amazonas. When we talked about it a little, it comes out she basically thinks Africa and South America are the same continent.

But then I realize we have different ideas at all why we watch the show. I enjoy the questions, and secondary to that is the behavior of the participants. Her involvement was all about the money they could win, and how they behaved.

So no, not going to discuss the problem with my custom built computer not leaving enough space for the cover of the chassis fan, the raising of cuy in Asia and South America OR future issues with water soluble oil paint.
