You can look in your local paper on the weekend editions (here anyway) they have lists of activities for singles to do, or at least possible places you could meet singles. Like fairs, church activities, bingo, dinner nights, places to socialize. I wouldn't go alone though. Go with a friend if you can. Wine tastings, and food tastings are good if you can find them in your area. Also Expo shows. We travel into the big city for that.
I have hard and fast rules I stick by. 1. Never leave or meet up with the person I just met. 2. If phone #s are to be exchanged, I take his. 3. I don't allow anyone to pick me up at my house, until I am sure this is gonna be more than a date or two. 4. Meet in public, with someone knowing where you will be. 5. I never do romantic dates on the first few dates...I keep it light, and easy for both of us. Mall, or a fair is a good place to go.
This way if a guy doesn't have good intentions you can tell pretty much up front!!!
