Alisandria has some good personal rules!

I met my husband at a do-it-yourself picture framing store. He worked there, and I spent a lot of time learning how to frame art. We probably would never have gotten together if he had worked, say, at a grocery store. There just wouldn't have been enough prolonged interaction.

Therefore, if I had to do it over again, it would be to:
- take classes in something I'm interested in (because the guys I'd meet would have common interests)
- definitely do some kind of coed sport, but most likely for me it would be bike riding
- find some clubs, perhaps on Craigslist, maybe for gardening or travel
- travel a LOT, and stay in hostels or other places where you're likely to meet outgoing and curious travelers
