I generally see this as the subconscious confusion. You see it a lot in feelings of love, sex and happiness and how they tend to get mixed up. They are easily confused and it's the conscious minds job to help sort out that confusion.
I'll do a copy/paste from my thread as it's fair example:
Separate confusing phrases and emotions, love, happiness and pleasure get confused often. Sex is not love or happiness it’s a short-term emotion that simulates a pleasure. Happiness is a longer-term goal or emotion. And by separating this in your mind, you help the subconscious from confusing these emotions. Then by looking for examples of this in life we teach the subconscious mind, as it is always looking for the most efficient method. There are a lot ways to confuse our mind, once you start looking you’ll start seeing how easy it is to be confused by the presentation of this information.
What I would do is explore each emotion and try to define what is the cause of each emotion. Then re-define it to my self in a very clear and concise manner. And try to separate them from each other, it may take some time. But then most things that are worth doing do often take time and work.
