JBug,

Congrats. This will be a great experience for you. Getting involved in the group will give you a great opertunity to get even more involved in everything that the group is doing. You will find that your job goes beyond being the parlimentarian. There are tasks that everyone takes on & works together to accomplish & run the group. It is a great learning experience & will give you a great sense of belonging & doing something very important.

I got involved with political things from the time I was in Junior High when I was president of our girls club, became a class representative & president of the orchestra. That was when I had to take the student government class which taught me what was involved in running the student activities. It was also a learning process about parlimentary procedures.

I didn't get involved in anything political until we moved into our first home. I ended up being elected treasurer of our homeowners association while I was holding down my 70 hour/week career with a 2 year old daughter. Thank heavens I had a degree in accounting because I took over a real mess & ended up having to do all the billing because the billing company kept messing everything up & all the homeowners were angry. It was a good thing I learned how to work with very angry people & it was just easier for me to do it all until I was finally able to hook up with a great bank president that helped me get their billing system set up without all the problems. I did learn what was involved in running a home owners association & realized that I never wanted to live in a home owners association again. I must not have learned my lesson very well because when I joined the management club at work I was elected treasurer of that group too. Again, I inherited a real mess. The good point of having the position was that I would get involved with all the business that went on in the group besides just the accounting. I know that for me, being completely involved with the management club was an awsome experience when we supported the seeing eye dog training & adopted one of the dogs throughout his training. For me, the it brought me into a closeness of all the things that the club was being involved in & learned better how a group runs it's business.

After I left my career on medical disability, it took me years before I even got out of the house again, but when I went back to college to take some interior design courses, I again took on the job of being treasurer of the interior design club & became representative to several of the professional groups. My previous experience was great because I was able represent the club & get the financial support from the college to help pay for future activities.

Your experience will go with you for the rest of your life & it will be easier & easier to become involved in groups in your future. You never know what your future will hold, but everthing you do is great experience for your future.

Congrats again,
Debbie
