I knew two guys like that when I was in grad school in SC. One was worse than the other though. He told me he thought I was too fat to get around well enough to do the work we'd be doing. I asked him when I had first got there where there were cool places to hang out, that I was lonely and would like to meet some new people. He proceeded to tell me that he didn't sit there and wipe peoples' @sses for them, ask someone my own age. Obviously this guy had no life. He said if you're lonely than go back where you came from. I had been there only 2 weeks and I just wanted to make some friends. When I was getting ready to give a presentation the following day, he wanted to talk to me. I told him no. He proceeded to beg and plead for me to talk to him about the presentation. So I relented and went into his office. He asked me to tell him what I was going to say. He was one of the authors listed on my presentation poster, so he wanted to know. I began to tell him what I was going to say when he told me that if maybe I'd shut up and think about something for a few seconds that I would do better. I looked at him like he was nuts. He had asked me to tell him, then he told me to shut up. I don't get it. So I walked out, took my poster with me, and shut the door in his face. I don't need to put up with that petty bull***t. I worked so hard while I was there. And he would keep remarking that he wanted people that had a real commitment to what we were doing, hinting that I was not committed. I stayed out for 48 hours without sleep to do a study on the beach. I worked my butt off. When we would go onto a teleconference he would introduce everyone but me to whoever was on the phone. He had said something about how I needed to get good grades, and I was like wtf are you talking about, I have all A's and B's. He was also on my thesis committee, and I took him off. I told him I needed his signature to do so, but if he didn't want to sign, the dean would override him and take him off anyhow. He got really angry and signed it and told me to get out of his office. I just laughed at him. Truth is, he didn't like women. I was awarded a research assistantship and he had it taken away and given to the other guy that didn't like me and his student. Look at me now, bro. I graduated and I work in my field.
