See if you can notice how your feelings change before and after you do these things. Maybe that will help you gain some insight into why you do it. I'm a big supporter of trying to tell your therapist about anything you discover that has significance for you, although I do know how hard that can be sometimes. When I notice that there is something that I don't want to tell my therapist, that tells me it's probably important to tell her.
