I like this post Planning. It may sound very negative but I think it is important for people to understand, both people suffering and those who don't, to understand that these feelings are not a side effect of depression but are the very nature of depression itself.
It's not like if we could work ourselves past these feelings we would be free of depression, as outsiders easily think. These feelings indicate a diagnosis that something is wrong with us, something that can be treated, just as a pain in the abdomen may indicate appendicitis. A bottle of tylenol may make the pain go away but it does nothing for the problem.
As with any illness, it may be important to treat some of the symptoms for some immediate relief but ultimately you have to work on curing the disease or else the symptoms will just keep coming back, sometimes much worse.
