I have looked up old exes, with all the social networking available it is just too hard not to in some cases. In one instance I have actually started being friends with one of them and his wife, though I think out of the two I like his wife better, lol.

When I see an ex that brings back bad memories I take a moment to be thankful that I left that situation. Every relationship I have been in has taught me a lesson of sorts that helped shape the person I am today. Sounds like you are much better of without professor jerk.
