My DID does not effect my taking medication. The medications that I was on for depression were not the same medications that I took as a child so none of my memory pieces contained taking paxil and welbutrin. So I couldn't take the paxil and welbutrin while I was dissociated.

As for taking the medication when aware I had a problem with remembering if I took it that morning or if I was remembering taking it the day before because time frames, days weeks and months just kind of run mish mash into each other. I have to keep track of what day, month and so on that it is by using a caledars. Besides not remembering if I took the medication that day I was also having the side effect of getting sleepy the first 2 months on the medication. So I contacted my doctor and with his permission I switched from taking the medication in the morning to taking it at night. Every night before bed I write in my journal so I would take the paxil and welbutrin at night and write in my journal the date and time that I took it.

The next night when opening to write in my journal I would see my medication log and go get my pills and take them. Problem was solved.

so suggestion think about something you do every day at the same time. and then take the medication then writing down the date and time and dosage.

This also works when giving children medication. having a child that has a life threatening breathing problem from the day he was born to when he was home I never had a problem with making sure he recieved his medication, the right dosage and so on and the poor kid at one point was on 5 different medications at once - one for ear infection, three for asthma and one for allergies. I just picked the time of day where we did the same thing every day, and wrote it down each time.

As for fog and sedation most psychotropic meds it doesn't matter if you take it during the day or at night. All that matters is that you take it the same time every time you take it so that the levels of the medicaion in the body stays at and even level right for you. So maybe checking with your doctor and taking it at night like I did will work for you too.
