Me and my sister were talking, and she mentioned that she felt "totally awkward" when she danced in front of a girl that used to be on the school's Show Choir team, but got kicked off even though she was good. She said that the girl was okay about it before, but when she was dancing, my sister had to force a smile while the girl looked like she was about to burst into tears.

I just don't get it. Wouldn't it be sad to see something like that? It would be as if you saw a little puppy wandering the streets and it got soaked to the bone when a car drove by through a muddy puddle. Bad analogy, I know, but you get my point. If something was bad and got worse, and other people noticed, why would they feel awkward about it? Isn't awkward when you don't know what the other person is thinking/feeling, and neither do they, so you both don't know how to proceed?

I know that when people look like they're about to cry around me, I feel apprehensive and scared for a couple different reasons. Why are they crying? Should I be worried about it? Do they expect me to comfort them? What am I supposed to say? Should I leave them alone? Do they want privacy? If I leave, how far should I go? Should I be right around the corner, or just turn so my back is to them? Do they want me to talk to them? Do they want me to get someone?

Why are people so confusing?
