carebirdy,
depression can really take it out of you, can't it? It hits every part of your life.
Have you considered starting with a part time job? That is better than no job, and would let you get used to working. Holding a job when you are depressed is tough. I've walked out of more than one job over something small because i was already on the edge.
The job market isn't great right now, but you might do better in a job where you can work either by yourself or with less people. You may have a parks department near you that would hire a part time person. If you like animals, kennel jobs can give you some freedom from having to work with a lot of people. A kennel job would be noisy, with barking, but you could use earplugs, which you can't do if you are in a "people" job.
If you are seeing a therapist, talk it over with them, figure out what would be good for you and low stress. Being able to hold a job is satisfying emotionally, but if you are having trouble keeping one, don't beat yourself up over it.
