When you interact, other people take their cues from you. If you feel insecure and not confident, this is the message that other people will take in. It is okay to be awkward. If you watch other people you will see this happening and also see that they have accepted that it is okay. I'm an introvert and I always look for the person who is by themselves. I don't like large groups. If you like yourself, others will like you too (not everyone, but some people will, because it is impossible to get everyone to like you no matter who you are). You can gradually build confidence.
