The anger-turned inward theory may be true for some people. For me, I've always believed it was an accumulation of relentless contributing factors that started when I was around 10, factors which multiplied and accelerated from that point on. It was then that my family made a far geographical move and began its dysfunction. With the move came some losses, of relationships, and feelings of safety, love, and more. Later there was abuse. It all changed the way I thought and how I related to the world; I previously had functioned pretty healthily.

So I guess I would say my depression began from loss and chronic stress. There were times I felt plenty of anger, of course.
