Ah no, this was long before the cell phones (or before I ever had one at least,) it was the landline at my house. I would be in my room, the phone would start ringing, I'd run to get it (it was across the house, would ring the whole time,) as soon as I would step into the room, it would stop. Pick up the phone, no one there. Hang up, go back to my room, phone would start ringing.... And it would go on for 3+ hours at a time.

Talk about feeling like you're going insane... it was quite terrifying actually.
Now my reality test on this is that it would happen even when my dad was home, and he wouldn't hear the phone ringing. Only me. So, it wasn't prank calls or anything. Once I even woke him in the middle of the night, sobbing, to ask him if the phone had been ringing. He also had a phone right next to his bed. Nope, just me.
I get that "did I just get a text?" phantom vibration thing. It's totally different.
