it is an unfortunate side effect of a lot of meds. can you work with your doctors to take the least amount possible? also, contrary to the standard "8 hours," many people need more like 9 to 10 hrs of sleep ideally, where other people operate best on 6 to 7.
you can try this too: when you have an especially alert day, take note of anything which might allow you to recreate it again. such as, how much sleep you got the night before, what kinds of foods you ate, what amount of exercise you had, etc.
