I am a college student and I have not slept since Friday night (I slept like 2 hours that night from 10pm-12am). Tonight will make it 3 nights without sleep (assuming I don't sleep again). Is that a reason to go to the ER? What will they do there? I have been having auditory hallucinations, no visual ones...yet. I do not have any caffeine in my body, I am not on drugs, and I have always had sleep problems but it's never been this bad. I saw my T today and she said we may have to consider going to the ER, and told me to check in with her tomorrow and if I still haven't slept then she wants me to go. I am just wondering if it will help at all, I don't really think the ER can do anything for me.

I have PTSD and I do see a psychiatrist and psychologist every week. I am currently on the medication merry-go-round until we find something that works. I have used melatonin in the past but it is not working now. I have tried trazadone, sertraline (zoloft), prazosin with the sertraline, seroquel, and most recently mirtazapine (remeron). They've all had unwanted side effects, even if some of them did help me sleep. The mirtazapine I am still on because I started it on Thursday last week, however it is not helping me sleep at all.

What should I do? Can the hospital actually help me at all? I hate hospitals...
