You didn't mention what area you wanted to go into..Generally speaking there are some alternative routes in most areas, such as online schools or combined degrees where you study part online and part in classroom. You could also see if you could audit some classes (visiting student). Some Schools have several start dates during the year, so maybe you could look for schools starting in spring or summer and just study/work/volunteer/travel until then. Another good way to bridge the time gap would be to find an internship in your desired field of study. Good luck for the next year! I hope it works out.
