This is totally off-topic. Hope that's OK.

I've Googled this and found different answers, so I thought I'd ask you guys and gals.

How do you count how many days until something happens?

Do you include today and the day of the event?

Or just the days between today and the event?

For example, this is Wednesday, December 26, 2012.

How many days until January 1, 2013?

There are 5 days between now and then if I don't include today and the date of the actual event.

If I include today but not the day of the event (because that is the event itself so why would I count it as a day until it happens?), it's 5 days.

If I include today and the day of the actual event, it's 6 days.

I'm so confused now.
