Yes! I had the duodenal switch six years ago and have kept off 220 pounds just fine. There are several different kinds of weight loss surgery, so you'll want to do your research on all of them.
However, I had weight loss surgery after some fourteen years of intensive therapy. It was a good seven years before I could even sit in a session when my weight or my eating problems were mentioned, three more years to become ready to do therapeutic work on those issues, and a good four years of twice a week sessions with a LOT of deep, hard work involved.
Sometimes I still self medicate with food. The DS is far more forgiving of that than are other procedures, but it's still work to keep my mind in the game and doing what I need to do for my health and well being.
