A second low pressure system currently over the Southeastern United States is forecast to track up the Eastern Seaboard today while rapidly deepening into an intense low. The low is then forecast to track near the Nova Scotian coast to lie in the vicinity of the Cabot Strait by Sunday evening. Strong easterly winds will develop over most of the island on Sunday afternoon with localized coastal gusts of 100 km/h from Gros Morne down to Stephenville as well as gusts near 140 km/h in the Wreckhouse area. A brief band of heavy snow is also forecast to cross Central and Western Newfoundland on Sunday afternoon. Current projections show generally 10 to 15 centimetres, however, higher amounts are possible. Please monitor future forecasts as warnings for snowfall may be required.
