In family therapy there is the term "the named patient". This is the family member who is perceived within the family to be the cause of whatever problems the family is experiencing.

A major purpose of family therapy is to bring to awareness the fact that many problems are family problems, not problems with one person.

It is wrong for others to blame you and be "miserable" if you seek treatment for depression.
