It sounds to me that you should be thankful that the cast was gone along with the agony. Just because your legs don't serve you doesn't mean that the rest of your body doesn't work. Be thankful for what you have.
I've known several people with cerebral palsy and they are all successful people (and I don't mean rich). They all have functioning lives. Some need help, some don't. Most have their down days where they are depressed and frustrated, but for the most part, they've learned to live their lives according to their own capabilities. They are by no means "dead."
