I understand what you are saying. Social perception in the US is a very strange and precarious thing, with many "lines" and "fences" people use to separate thoughts selectively.

I've previously dealt with the problem of being told I need to gain weight, when I knew perfectly well that my body weight percentage was fine, HOWEVER, for me, I felt uncomfortable, unhealthy as it was.

I have since returned to a more fit state, and although I think I am just below the "good" range on that official medical body weight percentage scale, I am by no means abstaining from food anymore (not on purpose anyway - I still have my "forgetful" days or days I'm busy and my brain just pushes the stomach gurgling out of the way for productivity, but I feel everyone does that then and again) for the sake of abstaining.

I am probably around the fittest I've been in my life in terms of proper eating, exercise and body proportions (I have a small stature in height and bones, haha) but people constantly tell me I "don't have to worry about eating that cookie." ...Yes! I do! It has no nutritional value! People forget that weight isn't the defining subject for nutrition and health.

People are used to seeing heavier weights in the US (whether they meet the "obese" mark or not), I think. Can't stand it, the daily judgments, and know that I'm guilty of it then again without noticing too. I know that I have a petite structure by nature, and that some will never be this proportionally thin because that is not how their body was built to be healthy, even at a very fit state - and they look great. They could have the same strength level and body weight percentage, and people will only complain about the smaller person. Ridiculous.

In other countries, the official medical body percentage scale lower, meaning weights America considers "healthy" or "average/normal" are considered heavy elsewhere. People are just walking around with blinders on.
