Most of the time after an OD, they would do the charcoal in the ER if I was conscious otherwise ICU until medically stable. There were many times when I ended up in the medical part of the hospital with my anorexia & had the central line with IV nutrition......they would take my by wheel chair over to the psych ward for the groups during that time & my pdoc & psychologist would just see me in the medical ward after finishing up in the psych ward......I was the only one I ever saw go into the psych ward with an IV. Usually after an OD & the stabalization in the medical part of the hospital I would end up on a 51/50 (3 day hold in California) for another 3 days or so. At the beginning of my depression, the insurance I had forced me to go to a psych hospital 100 miles away from the one in my own city......that was seriously irritating especially since they didn't cover the ambulance ride cost. Only one good thing I remember about that hospital is that they had pet therapy......later on when that insurance ended, I was able to just stay in the hospital close to my home.....my H would bring my eskie dogs to visit.....so I had my own pet therapy that everyone else enjoyed also.

Don't know how I survived some of those experiences......no fault of my own that's for sure.
