Granite - I meant to write this earlier, but Wiki's advice on stepping down on sugar added to things is sound. I've used that method twice now. Once to stop adding sugar to my coffee and now to stop adding sweetener to my oatmeal. Now all I add to my oatmeal are some raisins and fresh friut. That's enough sweet for me.

Also, I don't know much about how fruits affect blood sugar levels, but I found a recipe for oatmeal muffins that use bananas in place of oil and sugar. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks interesting and definitely would not have the paste consistency of cooked oatmeal
