RTS - Ah yes, kittens are only kittens for a short time. And then they become opinionated cats. I've had about a dozen cats in my lifetime and have loved all of their distinct personalities - and 5 of those cats I had since the day they were born, and 3 cats were about 2-3 weeks old when I got them (all had been abandoned, including my most recent one that I posted pix of). My daughter wants a kitten again so badly, but I always remind her that they don't stay that way for very long. As much as we love cats, I doubt that my Toby would be interested in having another one in his domain. If I didn't have Toby, I would love to foster kittens. That would take care of our kitty fix.
About your other post, for some reason my mind/body is resisting thinking back to that time frame. It probably has less to do with actual childhood deaths as the idea of that time frame being a very difficult one for me.
