I'm no expert but from all my readings about BED and ED in general, over eating is a kind of coping mechanism. And from my understanding in order to recover you need to replace binge eating with a healthier coping mechanism.
This is hard and something I am struggling with. The problem is that eating works! It makes you forget about what you were worried about, stressing about or replaces boredom. I also binge when mentally I am feeling really down, so my motivation is not there to find an alternative.
