I am so glad you visited with friends! I think crochet will be easier than you think, and it's very low cost. You just need to learn the basic stitch and the rest expand on it and make sense. You can also print out easy beginner patterns like a baby bib or hat. I got really good at it, made and sold some rasta type hats, made super colorful baby hats out of embroidery thread. I miss it. It was relaxing but creative.

When I was dirt poor with 2 babies at age 22, I found a big bag of many yarns at the playground, along with a few crochet hooks. I thought it was a miracle. I kept coming back to playground to try to find owner, but never did, so I made some nice things from it.
