For me, living in a small town so close to a big city is the smart thing to do...easy and safe living, and grab a bud or two, and head for the city! We used to drive more than two hours to Atlanta just to get a pizza (REALLY good pizza) or go to a concert, whatever. Piece of cake!
I think you'll do just fine...save up some cash, get some experience on a daily...in a couple of years you can start looking for a big paper job, maybe.
Good luck!
