"I'm Learning"

learning that difference of opinion
is not a personal attack
and that once I say something
there is no turning back

I can try and run from it
run as far as I may
like I have done so many times before
saying the words that hurt to say

but this time it's different
I'm not running anymore
I'm making peace with myself
and the ones I've hurt before

cuz I will never belong
if I don't have a place to stand
i've chosen my place wisely
while I learn to be a man

a man will stand by you
and he will help carry the weight
and he will support you
and will not hesitate

but even though he supports you
he won't harm others at all
instead he will help you stay strong
he will help you stand tall

in the face of your problems
no, he won't play all tough
with those that oppose you
he will simply say enough

when the load gets too much to bear
and all your hope is gone
he will take on your problems
and show you what it means to be strong

yes, that is a man
it's who I hope to be
a real man in todays society
it's anything but easy
