It is absolutely YOUR decision to make. It is your body and mind ~ not the doctors or your family's. I assume that from their perspective, they want to relieve you of whatever illnesses they possibly can. I like to think that they don't want you to suffer from any illnesses. So, if there's a possibility that something can help you feel a little better, they jump at that idea. That's my take on it anyway...
Regarding the facts about deep brain stimulation ~ doctors have found it to be helpful for a variety of illnesses, (strangely imo) including seizure control. I was hospitalized for severe depression a year or so after my brain surgery (for E). One of the doctors made the mistake of recommending it to me and I flipped out on him!! I told him that there was " no f'ing way that I was undergoing another brain surgery to control my depression, I have E!" He replied that they've found the surgery to actually help seizures, blah, blah.
His reassurance meant nothing to me. That was a big NO!!! from me. I don't regret my decision at all. I strongly recall how painful my surgery was, as well as how difficult it was to recover from it. The doctors haven't experienced it themselves. They've merely witnessed patients undergo the surgery in hopes of improving their lives. In my opinion, we all have different limits on how far we're willing to go in the treatment of our illnesses.
Some info is attached about the deep brain stimulation. Gentle hugs to you ~ take care!

Thanks for this! I am not bothered much by my OCD but the Dysautonomia is a real pain to me.. if they could GARENTEE this would cure or greatly reduce my dysautonomia symptoms I would go for it.. but NOT for just OCD. I did find a center in alabama for autonomic disorders though and plan to check them out for treatment.
