Guess I'm kind of late on the reply, but here's my 2 cents on sleeping pills. I've been an insomniac since childhood and I have tried them ALL.

I didn't like Lunesta because it didn't work very well for me as far as falling asleep. The reason I didn't keep trying it out, though was that it gave me a god awful taste in my mouth. Really horrible.

Someone mentioned the new Rozerem - I tried that and hated it too. It did make me sleepy, but it's the worst of all the sleeping pills I've ever tried in regards to the hangover effect (including even chloral hydrate which is the stuff they slip into drinks in the old movies). I did sleep, but I felt crappy until evening the next day. Just super groggy and truly a hungover feeling.

In the last year I've been switching back and forth between Sonata and Ambien. I really like Sonata the best because it has such a short half-life. It never leaves me feeling sleepy the next day. You only have to be able to devote 4 hours to sleep after you take it instead of the 7 to 8 your supposed to do with Ambien. That also makes Sonata a nice option if it's 2 in the morning and you have to get up for work, but you need a sleeping pill. The only thing about Sonata is that is sometimes makes me have visual hallucinations if I take it and don't fall asleep for some reason. That doesn't bother me though.

I take Ambien on days when I don't have to get up early or I really feel like a need more than 3 or 4 hours of sleep.

Hope you find one that works for you...Jon
