There are a lot of diagnosises that have paranoia and even hallucinations and delusions. I think in the medical field "schizophrenia" is the "big one" type diagnosis. Like, they want to be really careful with diagnosis, because actually it is a big deal diagnosis. I mean, all MIs have their stigma. But, for example, the stigma of ADD is not the same as the stigma for depression which is not the same as the stigma for bipolar.
And sz is a lot more than just hallucinations and paranoia. You say your issues are effecting how youd dress and eat? How so? Also there are cognitive issues that go along with sz like disorganized thought and speech patterns, etc. There's a lot to schizophrenia. And I think they want to be careful diagnosing it.
I don't have schizophrenia dx. I am bipolar NOS with possible psychotic features and ultradian cycling. But, I do have hallucinations and paranoia and at times it has effected me for long periods, and other times it barely effects me at all... So, I'm not fully diagnosied, because right now I don't have a psychiatrist.
