As you suggest you could get some books and leave them lying around in the hope he reads them. I was going to suggest getting him to talk to the docs, but it sounds as though he wouldn't believe them anyway.
I'm terrible with words when I try and talk to people. Maybe writing him a letter would help? You can say all you want to say and take your time over it before he gets to read it.
I don't know anything about how it works in the States but could he be worried about the effect of the cost of treatment? It sounds as though he used to support you, but now something is holding him back. Maybe something else is going on or your illness is being blamed for something and that's why he's gone into denial about it?

The cost isn't a factor with my illness, well... except going to a inpatient place that's like 10,000$... lol!! But he doesn't support me at all, I support myself.
