Have you tried focusing on opposite of what the class focuses on (i.e. you get the immersion part in class and study the core [alphabet, numbers, words, sentences, etc. on your own])? I love languages and I teach myself. I've found that combining both aspects really helps the language stick for me. What language are you studying?
