I would have to believe that x had something to do with me. I am a terrible partner like that. So if x was something like - "if you touch me on my forehead, I will respond badly" = then I would refrain from doing it. But if it was "I will respond badly if you go play golf" - I would be all like "what does my golf have to do with you?" (and I would need a good explanation to not go play golf(this is assuming I have not chosen to play golf on the day partner has open heart surgery or needs me to take her to chemo or her award ceremony sort of thing (because even I would not do choose golf over those things).
