I am a mental health professional. I work with individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness.
I also have my own mental issues. I cannot imagine degrading my clients in the manner that nurse spoke to you. Just because you have schizophrenia doesn't mean you don't deserve to be heard.
One of my clients has schizophrenia. I have found that when my employees and I treat him with respect as an equal, he doesn't need to throw chairs. We as a company refuse to utilize such "as needed" chemical restraints. We do use limited physical restraints, but only to protect the client. I've seen staff sacrifice their own safety to keep my clients safe.
I have been restrained by a friend who is a fellow MH professional during a tantrum of mine in the past, so I know how it feels.
This angers me. I promise, I am one of the good ones.
