It is very distressing to go into chat and have a person also in chat who is suicidal and feel like you can't leave when you need to because you don't know what the other person is going to do. I have actually started avoiding the support room because of people coming on when they are suicidal. While I want to support people when they need it, that is more than I am willing to deal with. And as such have felt the need to limit my support to everyone to avoid being put in that situation. If someone is actively suicidal they need to look for help IRL.
Thank you for clarifying something I didn't say. What I said was that Support chat is a place to talk about your feelings ( not active suicide plans.) If such negative feelings are not allowed to be discussed I would suggest either closing all the chat rooms, or designating a moderator for each one. If the rules changed, then let it be known. But I was always under the impression that chat rooms were for talking so no action was taken...and it's always been that you don't go to chat for support in any illegal intentions. I am sorry for your confusion.

I think also that some members have additional disorders that would cause them to use the 'suicidal ideation' as a tool for attention... and no one is really able to help here with that....

Plus other members, imo, would be triggered by the discussions and still others would be frustrated and overwhelmed by trying to help a suicidal person. The site just isn't set up to help much in that area....

If one is truly suicidal they need to be talking to someone IRL, not posting or chatting on a website imnsho.

But you know you can post in depression forum about your low feelings and receive encouragment.
