The time between childhood and college is full of many experiences and a lot of changes for most people.
For those who go away from home to college, the majority are in general making one of the biggest breaks of their lives--they are moving into a whole new era of life. Few bring much with them except boxes of keepsakes and suitcases of new clothes.
I'd assume it was a starting over from a clean slate for everyone. If, somewhere down the road, something comes up--deal with it. Otherwise, enjoy your new life. You don't have to make friends with anyone.
