By contrast, this movie was much more than I thought it would be. It's not just about mental illness, it's about love and obsession, family and football, dancing with disaster.....and dancing like the stars!
It was not triggering for me, although there were a few cringe-worthy moments when Pat would go off on one of his 4 AM tirades over something totally irrelevant that made my husband steal sideways glances at me as if to say "Now, you see what
I live with!!". But I recognized myself more in Tiffany, whose illness is never really specified in the movie but who is at once more F'ed up and more vulnerable than Pat could ever be.
Great movie. We enjoyed it thoroughly, and understand why it was nominated for the Oscars.
