Unfortunately, antidepressants without a mood stabilizer to buffer them tend to make us manic. You may need something like Lamictal to balance things out; some of us (as you can see in my signature) need several drugs to manage our illness. But the only way to know is to see a psychiatrist or psych nurse practitioner who knows what he or she is doing---don't expect your GP to manage something as complicated as bipolar disorder.
