I saw a facebook friend's posting on my news feed. It reads something along the lines of "I have an eating disorder. I'm gonna be eating dis order of fries and eating dis order of chicken wings." As a recovered woman, this just really really bugs me! I get it's supposed to be a joke, but I feel that it really downplays the severity and seriousness of the millions of people who struggle with or have struggled with an eating disorder and those in their lives that are also affected. I made a comment, but she hasn't said anything yet. In fact, one of her friends commented afterwards about how hilarious it was. Am I being too sensitive? I understand that people don't "get" eating disorders without personal experience in one way or another, but joking about it like this really bothers me. I made my comment and tried to move on with my evening, but I'm just stuck thinking about it. I've been solidly recovered for several years, so it's not that I'm still too raw from the past. Any advice on how to deal with this?
