My child is in foster care/residential treatment facilities. and I have court hearings to review the case before a judge once a year and now that we all know that my son is not able to hold it together to last in a therapeutic foster home for very long and ends up back in residential treatment and the state law of DHS cases open for more than a year the child is not returned home until t he child turns 18, I have the court hearings called CRB once a year which is not in front of a judge but a panel of community members appointed to serve one year on the panel through the same process of jury selection.
I just got done with CRB and my next court hearing is in about 6 months.
I can tell you from experience load up on everything thing possible - parenting classes, anger management classes, depression anxiety management classes, individual therapy, family therapy, AA and NA if they apply to you. and do it BEFORE you are court mandated that way it looks real good to the judge that you recognize you have problems and are not waiting for someone to tell you to gewt off your butt ahd do them kind of thing that a majority of parents with children in the foster care system do. This will also make you stand out with everyone on the case as being a positive person that they want to work with instead of working against. and hang in there.
