Cor! What a question!

Unfortunately, we can't turn off our emotions or memories, so it's not as if you could flick a switch and stop yourself reacting to those triggers, I guess good therapy / counselling should give you tools you can use to help keep those strong emotions from adversely affecting your daily life too much.

When it comes to starting a family, the support of your partner will also be invaluable. If he is a good bloke and knows your triggers and fears, he can help you stay grounded and support you during those times when you need it.
