In general, I think taking vitamins are good for you. I think a lot of people are deficient in things because we do eat so much processed foods. Whether or not something helps you may be part of your own personal body chemistry, though.
Technically all things we take in are chemicals. Food is a chemical, medicine is a chemical, vitamins are a chemical. So, everyone reacts to chemicals differently.
When I feel something is a scam, it's when someone is trying to sell something as a "cure," regardless of what it is. Also, anything that requires you to remove things that are actually healthy for you from your diet. I've seen this so many times. One of those things ia bariatric surgery "cures" diabetes. It actually doesn't. It can help a great deal, but it doesn't cure it. We have a patient who is one of the first women to ever have bariatric surgery, and her diabetes is completely out of control. But, for several years after the surgery, her diabetes was in control.
Anyway, I'm using too many words so I'm going to stop there.
