Been there, never took meds though. Personally I think they only allow you to hide from the problem, rather than help actually overcome it/them. Try drawing or painting, something to express your anguish, when I get suicidal (though I'm not sure you're at that stage yet) I think doing something creative really helps, even if it only acts as a temporary distraction.
